Description
Little Thatch and Japonica Cottage is a range of two cottages and an outbuilding, likely originally a single farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. The buildings were altered and extended in the mid to late 20th century. The exterior is rendered, with a one-bay addition of blue lias random rubble on the right. The hipped thatched roof slopes to the right, and there is an original brick stack at the gable end on the right, positioned to the left of the cross passage and between the first and second bays on the left.
The structure is one and a half storeys high and consists of five bays. It features eyebrow dormers and a mix of late 19th and 20th century three-light casement windows. On the ground floor of Little Thatch, there are two inserted long leaded casements to the left of the entrance, while to the right is a three-light Tudor arch headed casement. Japonica Cottage has a small two-light casement to the left of its entrance and two three-light windows on the right, with the addition lit by a window in the end bay on the right.
There is a hipped thatched roof verandah at the left end and a hipped thatched porch for Japonica Cottage, which features a plank door. The interiors were not viewed, but the range is described as long and picturesque, although the detailing is noted to be of little interest.
