Description
Little Thatch Vine Cottage, located on School Lane, is a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century with later additions. The structure is made of cob on a stone plinth and is rendered, featuring a thatched roof over an L-shaped plan. The left side has a gabled end, while the right side facing Town Hill is hipped, and the wing facing School Lane has a gabled end at the rear. The building may have originally been a three-room, cross-passage house, with the higher end to the right of the doorway facing Town Hill, and an inner room or parlour wing now known as Little Thatch.
The main front has one window to the left of the door and two to the right at ground level, all of which are three-light 20th-century timber casements. Above, there are four 20th-century windows with lintels at eaves level. The outer windows are three-light timber casements, while the two inner windows are set very close together, sharing the same sill, and are both two-light. All casements have six panes each. The doorway features a small open porch with a hipped roof, supported by two fluted metal columns and accessed by steps.
At the rear, there is a continuous outshut that aligns with the end gable of the rear wing. The elevation facing School Lane has one 20th-century window under the eaves, with access provided by an end door beneath a two-light timber casement window. A curving rubble trap boundary wall is situated to the right. The cottage is included for its group value.
