Description

This is a 19th-century drinking fountain, also known as a village pump, located in Broadclyst. It is constructed from volcanic trap ashlar and stands as a freestanding block of masonry approximately 4 metres high, with a square base. Each corner features a keeled shaft, and the side panels are recessed and corbelled above. The entire structure supports a pyramidal stone cap. There are metal water spouts on each panel. Surrounding the fountain is a stone drainage channel, which is enclosed by a later chamfered kerbstone that has a shaped and sunken trough at the front.
