Description
Oakdene is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed of cob on a stone plinth and has a rendered finish, topped with a thatched roof that has a gabled end on the left and is half-hipped on the right. The original layout features a three-room cross passage plan, with a two-storey porch and later extensions added to both the left and right sides.
The house stands two storeys tall, with the left-hand extension having a slate roof and being single-storeyed. The original structure has a five-window range on the front, with the second bay occupied by the porch. The ground floor, which was once a shop, features early 20th-century display windows and a side entrance, along with a two-light timber casement window above. The attic slightly jetties out, and the porch is thatched.
To the left side of the house, there is a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window on the first floor, both with 19th-century timber casements. On the right side, there are two two-light timber casements on each floor, also from the 19th century. The right-hand extension is recessed, possibly due to road widening, and has one two-light window at ground floor level. The right end of this extension is canted and features a two-light casement window above an oriel window with three lights, each containing eight leaded panes, all supported on brackets.
At the rear, there are two doors and two two-light timber casement windows, each with two leaded panes. A 20th-century lean-to is also present. The interior has not been inspected.
