Description
Gould's Cottages is a terrace of four houses, originally built as three, in 1778 by Benjamin Gould. The cottages are constructed of cob on a stone plinth and are rendered, topped with a gabled slate roof. There are two axial brick stacks and the building has two storeys. The symmetrical front features five bays, with a platband and the middle three bays slightly projecting. A central door is set under a pediment supported by modillions and console brackets. Between the three central first-floor windows are two semi-circular headed niches. The doors at the ends of the range have moulded lintels on console brackets but lack pediments. All the sash windows appear to be original, with each window featuring two 6-pane timber sashes. The right-hand end includes two 2-light casement windows and a small one-light window on the first floor and attic. The interior of number 4 has been altered but still retains panelled internal shutters. The cottages were restored in 1969.
