Description

Fowlers Lane Cottage is a two-cottage dwelling, originally built in the 17th century and subsequently altered in the 18th and mid-19th centuries. The building is constructed of brick and has a thatched roof. It is single-storied with an attic. The left cottage originally had three bays and a lobby-entry plan. It features a boarded door set within a 20th-century thatched brick porch. Paned timber windows are present, with a blocked opening to the right of the main living room window. To the right and slightly set back is a second cottage, also single-storied with an attic and two bays, containing a central door, now a window, and 19th-century paned casement windows with segmental heads. A gable stack is situated on the right gable of this section, with a thatched lean-to attached to its right. Half-hipped thatch is present in the left cottage. A 20th-century extension is located at the rear. Within the left end gable, remnants of a queen strut truss can be seen. A central brick stack is located on the left cottage, and a gable stack is located on the right.
