Description

Rumwell Lodge is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and was enlarged around 1810, altered around 1860, and restored in the late 20th century. The building is rendered over rubble and features a double span pattern tiled roof with overhanging eaves, soffit board, and decorative brackets. It has decorative bargeboards and finials, and roughcast stacks at the gable ends set diagonally in pairs.

The plan has the gable end facing the road, with a parallel range that includes the original farmhouse at the rear. The structure is two storeys high with an attic and consists of five bays. It has 16-pane sash windows, with two on the ground floor flanking a central flat-roofed wooden porch supported by paired Doric columns and pilaster responds. The porch features a semi-circular headed doorcase with a leaded fanlight and a half-glazed double door. There is an ogee headed window on the right return of the rear gable end that lights the attic.

On the garden front, there are three gabled dormers with decorative bargeboards and finials, and 16-pane sash windows. To the right, there is a two-storey, three-bay service wing, and cellars below the right five bays.
