Description
This is an arched gateway and an attached garden wall located 10 metres south of No 4 Church Hill, dating from the mid-19th century. The gateway features a pointed arch set within a rusticated ashlar surround that is part of the wall, topped with moulded coping. It has a vertical plank door with iron strap hinges and a latch mechanism, along with a stopped label above the door. The garden wall, made of rubble, is four metres high and extends for 100 metres along the west side of Church Hill, serving as a boundary to Beckington Abbey. The structure is primarily noted for its contribution to the townscape, especially in relation to the approach to the church.
