Description

Poyntz House is a 17th-century cottage located on Gay Street in Mells. It is constructed from Doulting and local limestone rubble, topped with a tile roof and featuring brick end stacks. The building has an "L"-shaped plan and a symmetrical facade, standing two storeys high with an attic. It has two bays and three-light ovolo moulded stone mullioned windows with angled labels above. To the left side, there is a small 19th-century pent roofed outshut that contains a door opening with a four-panelled door. This door is sheltered by a gabled porch with a depressed four-centred arch head, accessed by a flight of stone steps. The wings at the rear of the house also feature three-light mullioned windows and a weathered string at the first-floor level. The building is marked as Poyntz's on the Ordnance Survey map.
