Description
Garston Cottages are three cottages located on Gay Street in Mells. Number 2 is dated 1598, while the others are probably from the 17th century, with later alterations. The cottages are constructed from Doulting rubble and feature thatched roofs, with five brick stacks and one rubble stack. They form an irregularly attached group that is picturesque in appearance.
Number 1 has a gabled wing that projects at right angles to the return of number 2. It is two storeys tall with an attic and consists of one bay with casement windows. The door opening is on the left side and features a 19th-century door with a wooden hood supported by brackets.
Number 2 is also two storeys high and has two bays. It features three-light reserve chamfer moulded stone mullioned windows with labels, and the first-floor windows are set in coped gables. A door opening has been inserted in the right bay, which contains a 20th-century half-glazed door with a side light.
Number 3 is two storeys tall with two bays and has casement windows. The door opening is on the left side and includes a 19th-century half-glazed door. There is a single-storey outshut of one bay to the left with a pent roof.
