Description
23A Wheelgate is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone and features a stone-coped gable, a moulded kneeler, and a brick stack to the left of a pantile roof. It has two storeys and an attic, with a two-window front.
The shop front includes plain pilasters and a frieze set within a moulded surround, topped by a moulded dentil cornice. There is a 20th-century shop door and window above a tiled riser. On the first floor, there is a 4-pane sash window to the left and a blocked window to the right, both with painted stone sills and flat arches made of voussoirs. The building has a corbel eaves cornice and features a gabled dormer with a bargeboard, which contains a 2x1-pane sliding sash window.
