Description

16 Saville Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of pink and cream mottled brick in Flemish bond, with gauged brick dressings. It features a painted stone plinth and a timber doorcase, along with a grooved timber eaves cornice that returns at the left end. The roof is covered with pantiles and is hipped to the left, with a brick stack rising from the base of the hip.

The building has a central-entry plan and is two stories high with a three-window front. The entrance is a recessed door with six glazed panels, accessed by three steps, and is framed by a reeded pilastered doorcase that includes a fluted frieze and a modillion cornice hood. The windows on either side of the door are round-arched, featuring radial glazed sashes with painted stone sills. On the first floor, there is a central sash with 12 panes flanked by two sashes with 16 panes, all equipped with unpainted stone sills and wedge lintels.

On the left side of the building, there is a tripartite Venetian window with a radial-glazed centre sash, situated beneath gauged brick arches on the ground floor. Above, on the first floor, there are two 12-pane sashes with stone sills.
