Description

Albion House is a house that has been converted into a house and shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and features a shop front from the mid to late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with a colour-washed front and a stucco plinth. It has a concrete tile roof and a double-depth plan. The structure is two storeys high and has three first-floor windows, along with a deep plinth.

The entrance, located to the left of the centre, features a four-panelled door with an overlight that has margin lights, all set within an architrave and reveal. The shop front to the right has a panelled surround with ornate carved consoles that support panelled dosserets, a cornice, and a hood. It includes plate-glass windows with moulded mullions above beaded panels and a central recessed glazed door. To the left, there is a 12-pane replacement sash window in a flush wooden architrave, with a sill beneath a painted rubbed-brick flat arch that has a raised ashlar keystone. There is a first-floor sill band, and the first-floor windows have original sashes. The building features a plain wooden eaves board, stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers, and 19th-century rebuilt end stacks.

Inside, both the shop and the house contain 19th-century single-flight staircases with scrolled wrought-iron balustrades, moulded handrails, and octagonal newel posts. The house also has chamfered spine beams. The adjoining range to the left, which is now part of the house, is not of special interest.
