Description

No 26, known as B & G Fashions, is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some alterations, including a late 19th-century shopfront. The building is constructed of brick, which is rendered and incised to mimic ashlar stone, and it has a Welsh slate roof.

The layout features a two-room plan with a central entrance hall that has been opened up to the left for the shop. The building stands two storeys high and consists of three bays, with quoins on the right side. The central entrance is a recessed half-glazed door with fielded panels, framed by an architrave. To the left is the shopfront, which includes a former entrance that is now glazed, and a full-height four-light window to the right. Both are set within a pilastered surround that has a plain frieze and ornate carved consoles supporting a moulded cornice and hood.

On the right side, there is a 19th-century four-pane sash window in its original raised architrave, complete with a projecting sill. The first floor features similar windows, with the one above the entrance being narrower. The building has stepped eaves and coped gables with stacks at each end. Inside, there is a chamfered spine beam with cyma stops in the ground floor room on the right. This building is included for its group value.
