Description
This early 19th-century house, now used as a house and shop, was later altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with a colour-washed exterior and a concrete tile roof. The building follows a double-depth plan, originally comprising two rooms with a central entrance hall at the front, and features inserted shop fronts. It is three storeys high and has three bays. The central entrance is round-headed and has a 20th-century glazed door and fanlight. To the left is a shop front, with a former entrance now a window, flanked by three-light windows with moulded mullions and a single transom, set within a pilastered surround featuring cable-moulded consoles and a moulded cornice. The right-hand shop front has a former entrance now a window, with a four-light mullioned window to the right, in a similar surround. The first floor has original 16-pane sashes in flush wooden architraves to the side bays, a narrower central window (previously a 12-pane sash, now with 20th-century glazing), all with sills beneath segmental arches. The second floor has shallower windows with 20th-century casements, the left-hand one within an original flush wooden architrave. There is a raised gable to the left, and a pair of ridge stacks. The building is included on the list for group value.
