Description
The building is a pigeoncote located approximately 15 metres east of the former house at Old Dunsa Bank Farm in North Yorkshire. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and is constructed of rubble sandstone with dressed stone dressings. The roof was missing at the time of the last survey. The structure is two storeys high and consists of one cell, featuring quoins.
The doorway has a dressed stone surround with bases and impost blocks, with the left side forming a quoin and extending to create the lintel of a small window opening. On the first floor, there is a semicircular opening with a dressed stone surround for pigeon-holes, along with part ashlar coping. At the rear, each floor has a doorway with a dressed stone surround and a small window on the ground floor.
Inside, the ground floor contains a spine wall that separates two earth closets, one designated for the family and the other for farm workers, each with separate access. The first floor features nesting boxes for pigeons. The building was noted to be in a state of disrepair at the time of the survey.
