Description

This is a milepost located on the A64, indicating that York is 14 miles away. It was cast by Mattisons of Bedale in the late 19th century. The milepost is made of cast iron and has a triangular cross section with an open rear and a blank, sloping upper face. The left side features an embossed pointing hand above the text "MALTON 4 MILES," while the right side has similar embossing with the text "YORK 14 MILES." The rear of the milepost is marked with "Mattisons of Bedale."
