Description
This is a milepost located approximately 500 metres south of Stockton Hermitage, dating from the late 19th century. It was made by Mattisons of Bedale and is constructed from cast iron. The milepost has a triangular section with a sloping upper face. On the left side, it displays the inscription "Malton 13 miles" beneath a pointing hand, while the right side shows "York 5 miles" also below a pointing hand. The reverse side features the manufacturer's name.
