Description

This is a milepost located opposite Villa Farm in Wigginton, North Yorkshire. It dates from the late 19th century and was made by Mattisons of Bedale. The milepost is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping upper face. The pointing hands on the side faces indicate distances but are incorrectly oriented and have replacements bolted over them. The left face shows that Helmsley is 20 miles away, while the right face indicates that York is 3 miles away. The sloping upper face is marked with "Bulmer East HD."
