Description
Red Oaks is a house built between 1909 and 1914 for the village schoolmaster by Parker and Unwin, commissioned by the Joseph Rowntree Village Trust. The building is constructed of brick and features a French tile roof. It has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys with attics, containing three first-floor windows. The windows throughout the house have the standard "New Earswick" panes.
The entrance includes a six-panel door with upper glazed panels, located to the right of the main section, with two 2-light casements to the left. The cross wing has a 3-light casement. On the first floor, there are two 2-light casements to the left and a 3-light casement in the cross wing. In the attics, there are two 2-light dormer casements to the left and a 2-light casement in the gable end of the cross wing. The house features stacks that rise through the pitch of the roof of the cross wing and the rear pitch of the main section, as well as a ridge stack.
