Description

Hutton Hall is a hall that has been converted into flats, built around 1820 with later alterations and extensions in the 19th century, and remodelling in the 20th century. The building is constructed from chiselled sandstone, featuring a sandstone ashlar plinth and dressings, topped with a slate roof. Originally designed in a symmetrical H-plan, the wings were extended to the rear, and a third wing was added to the right.

The main range is two stories high with five bays, and it includes a single-storey portico situated between recessed flanking bays. There are full-height canted bay windows at each end, and the right side has two-storey wings with three and two bays respectively. The Doric portico features double doors made of raised and fielded panels. The ground floor has 4-pane sash windows throughout, while a radial-glazed sash window above the portico is set in a raised round-arched surround with a keystone and imposts. The first floor has unequal 15-pane sashes on either side and 12-pane sashes for the remaining windows. All windows have plain raised surrounds, with keyblocks on those of the main range. There is a ground-floor sill band and a raised band at the first floor, along with a moulded projecting cornice and a coped parapet. A full achievement between volutes is raised over the parapet at the centre, with stacks located at both ends and to the right and left of the centre.
