Description

Welburn Lodge is a house dating to approximately 1860, with 20th-century alterations and an extension to the right. It is built of squared sandstone with sandstone ashlar quoins, and has a slate roof. The front, facing the road, is single-storied with an attic, comprising two bays and a cross-gabled appearance to the left. A lean-to is attached to the right. A steeply gabled timber-frame porch, set on a sandstone plinth, contains the entrance door, which is positioned on the left return front. To the left of the porch is a four-light canted bay with chamfered mullions and transoms, with a cross gable above. A two-light mullion and transom half-dormer is also above the canted bay. A two-centred arched light is visible in the lean-to. All window openings are quoined. A trefoil light is located at apex of the gable. An end stack is present on the right of the steeply-pitched roof. The rear elevation features three-light mullion and transom windows with two-centred relieving arches below, at ground floor level. A central ridge stack is also present. A 20th-century extension to the right is not considered to be of architectural interest.
