Description
This sundial, located approximately 10 metres south of Burnt Yates School, dates from 1828, although its base and shaft may be older. It is made of gritstone and stands about 1.2 metres tall. The sundial features a square base and a shaft with roll-moulding at the foot. The separate cap is incised with numerals and the initials 'W C 1828'. It has a bronze gnomon, and the upper part may have been added later. Dials dated 1827 and 1828 are also recorded at Dacre Chapel and Hartwith Church.
