Description
This sundial, dated 1828, is located in the graveyard approximately 15 metres south of Providence Chapel. It features a gritstone base and shaft with a bronze gnomon, standing at an overall height of about 1.2 metres. The sundial has a circular base and a vase baluster shape with a moulded base, which has been repaired, and roll moulding at the neck. The cap is separately made and includes incised numerals and the inscription 'G G 1828'. It is likely that the sundial has been repositioned. A similar sundial, dated 1826, can be found in the churchyard of St Jude's in Hartwith.
