Description
The former Nelson Arms public house and its attached outbuilding, located on Mill Bank in Bishop Thornton, date from the mid-18th century and have undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The main building is constructed from coursed gritstone rubble and is currently having its roof restored. It stands two storeys high and features three first floor windows. The central entrance has a four-panel door with a wooden architrave and cornice, flanked by canted bay windows that contain four-pane sash windows. Above the door is a small four-pane side-sliding sash window, which is flanked by larger three-light side-sliding sashes, with their lintels having been restored. The building also has kneelers, gable copings, and end stacks.
The outbuilding is lower and consists of two storeys with three bays. At the time of the survey, it was undergoing alterations, partly for domestic use. The facade facing the road features only 20th-century windows. It has a kneeler and gable coping on the left side, along with end and central ridge stacks. The rear of the outbuilding includes external stairs, original stable doors, and windows.
