ALLERTON MAULEVERER WITH HOPPERTON ALLERTON PARK Folly to north of Middle Fish Pond, known as Lady's Cave or Picnic Bower

GV II Folly or grotto. Late C18-early C19. Red brick, limestone rubble and ashlar. Stone slate roof. Single storey, three bays. Central round-arched opening on south east side with a pair of low wrought-iron gates; fleur-de-lis finials to bars. Flanking pairs of round-arched niches, the inner pair wider than the outer. Ashlar bands below niches and at impost level; also above the accentuated rusticated voussoirs to central arch and niches. Entablature above composed of alternating rusticated panels and groups of cast-iron balusters. The central portion, above the arch, is destroyed. Single pitch roof.

Rear: red brick, Flemish bond. Left and right returns: round-headed window opening with rusticated voussoirs.

Interior: Walls lined in brick, stone flag floor. Framed wooden ceiling fastened by iron bolts to roof structure above.
