Description

The terrace walls, steps, and urns located to the north and west of Allerton Park Mansion House were constructed around 1845 by George Martin for Lord Stourton. They are made of gritstone and ashlar. The main terrace is situated on the north and west sides of the house, featuring a second, lower terrace to the north. The main terrace includes a retaining wall built of random rubble, supported by closely-spaced buttresses. Notably, there is a substantial north-west corner 'tower' adorned with conical-capped turrets and a battlemented wall. At the eastern end of the north terrace, there is a flight of steps flanked by turrets and side walls. The lower lawn is decorated with three pairs of large segmental stone urns on square bases, which flank short flights of steps leading down to the lowest north lawn.
