Description
The Stables, part of Allerton Park, is a late 18th-century stable block, potentially designed by Henry Holland for Prince Frederick, Duke of York. The building is constructed of stucco with a slate roof.
It has a courtyard plan arranged around a central pavilion with single-storey two-bay wings and taller one-and-a-half-storey pavilions. The south front features a large central archway with plain impost bands, with a round-arched sash window below and circular windows set within the arch's curve. The ground floor features round-arched sash windows with glazing bars, while the wings have simpler sash windows with glazing bars. The end pavilions include blind arches, sash windows with glazing bars, and circular windows on the first floor. Carriage openings with double doors are present on the south courtyard front. The side ranges have hipped roofs.
The building has been converted into flats and is undergoing modernisation. Replacement sash windows, dating to the 20th century, are found on the east and west sides.
