Description
42 Wheelgate is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the late 18th century, with a shop front added in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of painted brick in stretcher bond and features a pantile roof with a brick stack at the right end. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a one-window front.
The shop front consists of plain pilasters with moulded imposts and a cornice, and it is equipped with a roller blind box that still has its fittings. The entrance includes glazed and panelled double doors situated between half-canted windows, which rest on tiled risers, leading to a mosaic tiled threshold. On the first floor, there is a tripartite window with a central sliding sash, set beneath a cambered arch. The building also has a brick dentil eaves course and a raking dormer featuring a two-light casement window.
