Description

The ice house at Sutton Park, located approximately 75 metres to the north-west of the main house, dates from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of pinkish brick in header bond, with some courses of stretcher bricks, and features large stone slabs on the roof of the entrance passage. The structure has a cavity-walled dome that is now uncovered and includes an inserted window on the northern side. The entrance passage is situated on the western side and has a board door. Inside, the stone-paved entrance passage leads to a rectangular access hole that opens into the ice chamber, which contains a brick-lined, tapering, circular pit. Originally, the ice house would have been covered with earth.
