Description
The ice house, built around the 1840s for the Duke of Sutherland, is a Grade II listed structure located on the west side of Swynnerton Park Drive in Trentham Park. It is constructed of brick with a stone entrance and is set into a bank, featuring a rustic drystone retaining wall. The entrance has a cambered arch doorway that leads to a brick-lined passage. This passage is notable for its cambered brick vault and is cut from the rock, containing three doors. The main chamber of the ice house is ovoid in shape and built with cavity wall construction. Although it is now partly filled in at the bottom, the chamber remains complete.
