Description
This is a chest monument from the mid-19th century, dedicated to Harriette Soweray, who died in 1846. It is made of sandstone and designed in the Gothic Revival style. The chest features a pitched and gabled top that rests on a stepped plinth. Each side of the chest has sunk quatrefoils with foliate crosses. There is a horizontal band of nailhead moulding around the upper edge, and vertical bands at the corners. An inscription runs around the lower edge of the upper part of the tomb, which includes recessed trefoil-headed arches on colonettes at each gable end. Originally, the gable ends and ridge were decorated with crockets. The monument is located approximately 18 metres south of the porch of All Saints Church on Church Street in Kirkbymoorside.
