Description

The S. Neale monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 2 meters north-east of the Reynolds monument, north of the north-west end of the Church of St. Bartholomew. It dates from around 1750 and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb is large and features two raised octagonal plaques on the north side, with a fielded center and angle piers adorned with rosettes. There are octagonal plaques at each end and a single plaque on the south side. The monument has a moulded base and cornice, with a pulvinated frieze that is broken forward at the angles and center. The topstone is ridged, and there is an inscription commemorating Sarah Neale, who died in 1745.
