Description
The National Westminster Bank, located at No 12 Market Place in Kirkbymoorside, is a house that dates back to the 18th century, although it has earlier origins and has undergone later alterations, including a partial refronting in 1920. The building features a red brick façade in English garden wall bond on a stone plinth, with rendered end walls and a rubble rear. It has ashlar quoins and a concrete pantile roof with brick stacks.
The structure is two stories high and has a four-window front. To the right, there is a glazed door set in a sandstone surround, with "BANK 1920" carved into the shaped lintel above. To the left, there are three 20th-century canted bays. The first floor has twelve-pane sash windows with stone sills and plain lintels. The gables are coped with shaped kneelers, and there are end stacks. The gable wall on the right features a 19th-century canted bay.
Inside, the ground floor retains very fine late 17th-century quarter-round moulded beams and joists.
