Description
The National Westminster Bank and Brenchley House, located at No. 39 in Long Sutton Market Place, is a flat, bank, and house built in the mid-18th century and remodelled in the early 19th century. The building features a combination of stucco and red brick with a slate roof and a single red brick ridge stack. The gables are coped with blue brick, and there are moulded eaves.
The ground floor has a chamfered plinth with chamfered rustication. The upper two storeys are marked by bays defined by fluted giant order pilasters and a first-floor band. The structure is two and a half storeys tall with eight bays, where each property consists of four bays. The right four bays are set at a slight angle and include a basement, with a basement opening to the left of the far-right doorway.
The main doorway has a 20th-century door and overlight, flanked by single tripartite sash windows, each divided by a band of rustication and topped with a keystone, although some have been obscured by a 20th-century sign. Further left, there is a similar doorway and door with a keystone. To the right, there are two glazing bar sashes, followed by another doorway with a panelled door and overlight, and finally, a single similar sash on the far right. All openings feature keystones.
Above these openings are four glazing bar sashes, with four smaller glazing bar sashes to the right. The top floor contains four smaller glazing bar sashes, a single blind window opening to the right, another smaller glazing bar sash, a similar blind opening, and a final small sash on the far right. All first and second floor sashes are adorned with moulded architraves.
