Description
The Midland Bank, located at No. 5 High Street in Pershore, is a building that originally served as a house and was later converted into a bank. It dates back to the 18th century and was partly remodeled in the 20th century. The structure is made of red brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring stone dressings, a rusticated stucco ground floor, and quoins. The high brick and stone parapet has stone coping and a deep moulded eaves cornice that conceals a plain tile roof, supported by two lateral brick stacks.
The building stands three storeys tall with a cellar and has a five-window range. The windows on the first and second floors are 6/6 sashes with segmental-headed moulded architraves, deep gauged brick segmental arches, and heavy carved keystones, along with stone sills; the second-floor windows are smaller. On the ground floor, there are four boxed 9/9 sashes featuring large moulded pseudo-keystones and deeper reveals. To the left, there is a doorcase with a decorative overlight and a 20th-century door, as well as a deep moulded plinth with cellar grilles. The left return of the building is partly rendered and partly painted, displaying segmental-headed sash windows with sills and wooden keystones. The rear of the building includes a double-depth wing.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the building was partly occupied by a bank and partly by a draper's business. An old photograph indicates that the current parapet has been reduced by two courses.
