Description

The Angel Hotel is an inn that likely dates back to the 16th century, with parts from the 18th and early 19th centuries, and it was refronted and remodeled in 1920. It is constructed of brick with a stucco render. The left-hand section features a plain tile roof that is concealed by a parapet and has a moulded eaves cornice, while the right-hand bay has a steeply-pitched roof made of old tiles behind a parapet. There are three brick stacks: one at the center of the left-hand section and two at the ends of the right-hand bay, with additional stacks at the rear.

The building has two storeys and a cellar. The main left-hand section consists of three bays, with four windows on the first floor, and a previously separate single bay to the right, along with a long rear wing. The outer bays of the left-hand section have two-storey bow windows featuring five transomed lights with leaded glazing and casements, along with a frieze of paterae. In the center on the first floor, there is an inn sign with relief lettering and a motif within a segmental-arched frame, flanked by two small leaded casements. Below this, the central entrance has a moulded architrave, a canopy supported by heavy consoles, leaded sidelights, and four stone steps, along with a deep plinth that has two cellar openings. The right-hand bay contains a 2/2 sash window with a projecting sill on the first floor and a carriage entrance below.

The rear wing is made of brick, partly stuccoed, and has an old-tile roof in parts, with dogtooth eaves in some areas and vestigial timber framing on the rear right-angled wing. Inside, the hotel features some heavy-scantling timber posts and spine beams, some of which are chamfered and stopped. There is a fireplace that dates back to 1575.
