Description
No. 1 Coffee Yard is a former house, now a shop and flat, dating from the late 17th century with later alterations and restored around 1990. It is constructed of red-brown brick in English garden-wall bond and features a pantile roof with tumbled brick gable ends, brick copings, and brick kneelers.
The exterior has a two-storey, four-bay front. At the left end, there is a glazed and panelled door, while the right end has a door with four raised and fielded panels. Between these doors are two 16-pane sash windows, one of which has an inserted 2-pane opening light, both with concrete sills. On the first floor, there is a 16-pane sash window to the left, a tripartite window with three 8-pane sashes in the centre, and a squat 6-pane sash window to the right. A moulded brick cornice runs above the ground floor, returning at each end and stepping up over a nine-pane staircase window at the left end. Additionally, there is a Yorkshire Insurance firemark dated 1824 on the left side of the first floor.
Inside, a massive timber fireplace bressumer remains on the ground floor.
