Description

16 Swan Road (Britannia Lodge), 18-22 Swan Road (even), 24 Swan Road (Archway House), 26-30 Swan Road (even) (Studley Hotel), and 12 Promenade Square are a mid-19th century terrace with some later alterations. The buildings are two storeys high, featuring dormers and basements, and have a double fronted design with three windows each. They have hipped slated roofs with eaves cornices and are constructed from grit stone ashlar. The recessed sash windows have plain surrounds and sills, with shutters on Nos 26-30 and No 12 Promenade Square, and include glazing bars. Each building has stone doorcases with pilasters that support a cornice and pediment, along with fanlights and half-glazed doors. Wrought iron railings are present at the shops. No 24 features a carriage entrance between Nos 24 and 26, which has block voussoirs and a semi-elliptical arch. No 26 (Studley Hotel) includes a basement entrance porch and a bay window added in the 20th century. No 12 Promenade Square is located on the south return of the terrace. Nos 16 to 30 (even) are grouped with No 12 Promenade Square.
