Description

Nos. 1 to 4, West Park, are a terrace of houses dating from the 19th century. They comprise three storeys and have semi-basements, with later dormers added to Nos. 1, 3, and 4. Nos. 1 and 2 have a double-fronted design with three windows each, while Nos. 3 and 4 have two windows each. The roofs are slate-covered, and the houses are constructed from grit stone ashlar with cornices and blocking courses. They feature segmental bows with three-light bay windows that extend to the full height of the buildings, flanking the entrance bays. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars. No. 1 has a wooden doorcase in the Doric style, featuring a round arched doorway with a radial fanlight above and a panelled door. No. 2 has a wooden, prostyle Ionic portico with an enriched frieze, an architraved doorway with a fanlight, and a panelled door. Nos. 3 and 4 have Ionic wooden doorcases, with patterned fanlights over panelled doors. The entrances are approached by steps with cast iron railings. Nos. 1 to 4 form a group with the return of the Harrogate School of Art, on Victoria Avenue.
