Description
West Park United Reformed Church, built around 1861-62 by Lockwood and Mawson, is designed in the Gothic style. The church features six bays and has a fishtail-slated roof with coped gables and gabled window bays. The exterior is constructed from rusticated grit stone ashlar, with decorative strings, buttresses, and pairs of gargoyles positioned between the bays. The windows are adorned with rusticated tracery and hood moulds, including a prominent five-light window on the west side and two-light windows along the nave. The arched doorway has a trefoil head with receding orders and a hood mould that includes ball flower terminals. A tower is located at the south-west corner, topped with an octagonal belfry and steeple. The church is noted for its spire, which contributes to the townscape value.
