Description
The Grange Hotel is a terrace of lodging houses built around 1820, consisting of numbers 2 to 9 on Prospect Place. The building features three storeys and semi-basements, with numbers 2 and 4-6 having dormer windows. Most of the houses have two windows each, while number 6 is double fronted with three windows. The roofs are slated, and the exterior is made of grit stone ashlar with cornices. Numbers 2 to 5 have bracketed cornices, and numbers 2 and 3 feature a secondary bracketed cornice at the second floor level. The windows are recessed sash types, with numbers 6 to 9 having architraves. Numbers 2, 3, 7, and 9 have splayed bays that rise through the ground and first floors. The wooden doorcases are notable, with attached Doric columns or pilasters, while number 6 has Ionic columns. These doorcases support entablatures with fanlights, and the French windows are approached by steps with wrought iron railings. Number 3 has a modern entrance to the Grange Hotel. This terrace is included for its group value.
