Description
These six lamp posts, dating from 1848, are a group value example of Victorian street furniture. They are cast iron and feature a square base with embossed decoration; each face displays a Yorkshire rose above a palmette design. The tapering, reeded column rises from the base and is topped by a palmette bell capital. A pair of small lion heads are positioned either side of ornately shaped ladder rests above the capital. A modern reproduction ‘Windsor’ style lantern is supported above by curving legs, sometimes referred to as a 'frog'. The lamp posts illuminate a pavement set back from the road and positioned alongside a row of late Victorian and early 20th century commercial buildings, which are not listed.
