Description
Wesley Chapel, built around 1862 by Lockwood and Mawson, is a chapel featuring a hexastyle Corinthian facade with a six bay return. It stands two storeys tall with a semi-basement podium and has a slated roof. The building is constructed from grit stone ashlar, with rusticated ground floor end bays. Corinthian pilasters extend from the ground floor plinth, supporting consoles, a bracketed entablature, and a pediment that has a foliated centerpiece in the tympanum, which is inscribed with 'Wesley Methodist Chapel 1862'. The first floor includes round arched windows with archivolts, imposts, and console bracketed pediments at the end bays, while the ground floor features segmental-arched windows. The entrances are located in the central three bays, approached by steps, and consist of round-arched doorways with imposts, archivolts, and console-keys, complete with fanlights and panelled double-doors.
