Description
54 and 56 Parliament Street are 19th-century buildings that stand three storeys tall, with an additional later attic. The façade features three windows, with a painted rusticated attic and grit stone ashlar. There is a cornice at the top. The second floor has recessed sash windows, while the first floor boasts a ten-light bowed window topped with a domed roof and arched lights that include stained glass. The ground floor has projecting shopfronts supported by pilasters and griffin caryatids that hold up a fascia-entablature. The shop windows are designed with columnette mullions and traceried heads, and there are recessed shop doorways with fanlights. A modern glazed canopy extends over the pavement. This building is included for its group value with Nos 50 to 58 (even) and Nos 2 and 4 Kings Road.
