Description
The Church of St Peter, built between 1871 and 1876 by J H Hirst in the Gothic style, features a tower added around 1926, designed by A A Gibson and constructed by Hymas. The church has a 5-bay nave with aisles, transepts, a 2-bay chancel, and an apsed sanctuary. It is topped with a slated roof and coped gables. The exterior is made of rusticated gritstone ashlar, with pedimented buttresses and parapets. The windows include 3-light aisle windows and a 6-light west window with plate tracery, along with trefoil lancet lights in the sanctuary. Inside, there is an open wooden arch-braced roof. The church features a gabled porch with double arched entrances and a 3-stage tower at the southwest corner, which has a 2-light belfry window with reticulated tracery.
