Description

Numbers 8 and 9 Promenade Square date to the late 18th or early 19th century and have been altered over time. Originally two cottages, Number 8 has a 2nd floor addition dating to the early 20th century. The roofs are covered in Welsh slate, with carved bargeboards along the eaves and gable of Number 8. Number 9 retains its original stone chimney, with a later brick addition. The buildings are constructed of coursed squared grit stone rubble. Number 8 has an early 20th-century pebbledash bow window with three-light sash windows. Number 8 also has early 20th-century casement windows with leaded lights and a bow window on the ground floor. Number 8 features a mid-19th century stucco arched doorcase with an archivolt, a key stone, panelled reveals, a fanlight, and a panelled door. Number 9 has a modern doorway replacing the original pedimented doorcase. The buildings are included on the list for their group value, together with numbers 7 to 12, Promenade Court, Cornwall Road and the return of number 30 Swan Road.
