Description
There are three former gas lamp posts along Crown Place, designed in 1848 and fitted with late 20th-century lanterns.
These lamp posts are made of cast iron and feature a square base with embossed decoration that includes a Yorkshire rose above a palmette on each side. The base supports a tapering, reeded column that culminates in a palmette-decorated bell capital. At the top of the column, there are a pair of small lion heads, which are flanked by ornately shaped ladder rests. Above this, a modern reproduction of a ‘Windsor’ style lantern is supported on a short shaft.
The lamp posts are situated along a cobbled, pedestrianized street that is bordered by the Grade II*-listed Royal Pump Room and the Grade II-listed 1-3 Crown Place.
