Description
Hales Bars is a corner building dating from around 1827, located on the site of an 18th-century inn, with a later 19th-century addition on the east side. The building stands four storeys tall and features two windows, including one bowed corner window and one return window, along with a three-window gabled extension. The roof is slated, and the structure is made of grit stone squared rubble. It has recessed sash windows, some of which have glazing bars, while the extension includes a segmental arched opening with keys and plain surrounds. The ground floor has a wooden public house frontage with pilasters that support an entablature. The interior is notable for retaining Victorian features and fittings, including two sulphur springs in the wine cellar. Hales Bars is part of a group with Nos 1 to 5 (odd).
