Description
Knots View is a cottage dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed of limewashed rubble with painted stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The layout includes a central staircase plan, and the front has a continuous outshut characteristic of 17th-century houses.
The cottage is two storeys high and has two bays. The central entrance features a chamfered surround and an early 20th-century door. To the left on the ground floor, there is a small window and an entrance to an outbuilding. The right side has a two-light flat-faced mullioned window with sash windows on the ground floor. On the upper floor, there is a former two-light chamfered window with a missing mullion and four-pane sashes, alongside a two-light chamfered mullioned window with casements. The roof has ridge stacks on the right-hand side and right of centre.
At the rear, there are two ground floor windows: a former three-light and a former four-light double chamfered window, each with only one ovolo mullion remaining. The upper floor has two double chamfered mullioned windows; one was originally a four-light window, now with only one mullion left, and the other was a three-light window with no mullions, featuring Yorkshire sliding sashes. Inside, the cottage includes an early 18th-century fireplace with a corbelled mantel, diamond moulding, and a cornice.
